Who gets access to American Express Presales?

Access is exclusively for American Express cardholders. While most cards will grant you access to the standard "American Express Early Access" presales, some premium cards like the Platinum Card® or Centurion® Card can unlock higher-tier offers, sometimes called "Preferred Seating" or "By Invitation Only" events. The core requirement is simply that you use an Amex card to complete the purchase. It's always a good idea to check your specific card's benefits guide to see the full range of entertainment perks you're entitled to.

Why does American Express offer presales?

It's a premium perk that adds value to their cardmember experiences and rewards customer loyalty. By partnering with major event promoters like Live Nation and AEG, American Express provides a benefit that directly appeals to a customer base interested in entertainment, sports, and theatre. These perks strengthen the Amex brand and give them a competitive edge over other credit card companies, similar to programs offered by competitors like Citi. This partnership model creates a win-win situation, as promoters get dedicated marketing to a premium audience and Amex provides a tangible benefit to its members.

How do you get and use Amex presale tickets?

The process is straightforward. When you're on a ticketing site like Ticketmaster, you'll see an "American Express® Early Access" option for eligible events. Simply select that ticket type. During checkout, you must pay for the tickets with your American Express card. Some sales may ask for the customer service phone number from the back of your card as a "password" to unlock the sale, but the primary requirement is paying with the card itself. To ensure a smooth process, have your Amex card handy before the presale begins so you can enter any required details quickly.

What kind of tickets are available?

Cardmembers get access to a dedicated block of tickets that are held back from the general public. This is a separate inventory of seats across various price levels. It doesn't automatically mean all the seats are in the front row, but it guarantees you a chance to buy tickets with less competition before the general on-sale begins. The size of this dedicated ticket block can vary greatly from one event to another.

American Express Presales: By The Numbers

American Express has been in the presale game for a very long time, and the numbers show their focus on premium events. We have tracked over 100,000 events that included at least one American Express presale. A significant portion of these are for Broadway shows and major theatre productions, making it one of the most reliable ways to get early tickets for the stage. This long-standing history suggests that Amex will continue to be a major player in live event ticketing for years to come.

What kind of events have Amex Presales?

Our data shows a clear focus on theatre, major concert tours, and sporting events. While you'll find Amex presales for a wide range of artists, they are most consistently available for Broadway shows covered by outlets like Variety, residencies in Las Vegas, and tours for established, multi-generational artists. They also frequently offer presales for tennis tournaments and basketball games. You can often find a calendar of upcoming presale events on the American Express Experiences website.

Are Amex tickets better than the general public's seats?

Not necessarily, but sometimes yes. For a standard "Early Access" presale, you are simply buying from the same seating map as everyone else, just earlier. However, for "American Express® Preferred Seating" offers, Amex has reserved a block of what they consider to be great seats. These are still sold at face value, but you need the right card to unlock the option to buy them.

Please do keep in mind that 'better' is subjective, as a Preferred Seating ticket in the 10th row might be less desirable to you than an Early Access ticket in the 3rd row of a different section. It happens.

There are some stories circulating that American Axpress isn't the best card for presales, but that really depends on how you read the article.

Do I need a special code for an American Express presale?

Usually, no. The "code" is your card itself. The ticketing system verifies that you are paying with an American Express card. In some cases, to unlock the ticket selection page, you may be asked to enter the 10-digit toll-free number from the back of your card. Note that for Canadian cardholders, this customer service number is often found on the front of the card, not the back.

Are tickets more expensive during the Amex presale?

No. Generally you are paying the same face value price for the tickets as everyone else. Someone is going to point out that there are events where the alloted tickets are more expensive because they are in a preferred section. Yes it happens, Not all the time or even close to it. American Express presales do not add any extra cost to the ticket itself but standard service fees from everyones favorite ticket and concert monopoly still apply. This may provide an advantage, especially for events that use dynamic pricing where ticket prices can increase as the general sale progresses.

Is it worth it to buy during the Amex presale?

For in-demand events, absolutely. The primary benefit of any presale is securing a ticket at face value, avoiding the stress of the general sale and the risk of inflated resale prices. If you see a ticket you're happy with during the Amex presale, it's almost always a good idea to buy it. While the absolute best seats might be reserved for VIP packages or other exclusive sales, the presale gives you a fantastic opportunity to get great seats with much less competition. Ultimately, the value lies in the peace of mind that comes from securing your tickets early for a show you don't want to miss.

While American Express provides fantastic access for its cardmembers, our service (which is not affiliated or associated with American Express in any way) excels at organizing and providing access to these and many other types of presales. We keep you covered for all the opportunities to get your tickets as early as possible.

American Express presales aren’t the noisiest, but they’re some of the most reliable and consistent across the industry. While Artist and Spotify presales create buzz, and Ticketmaster and Live Nation dominates by sheer volume, Amex stands out for steady success rates and strong brand identity — offering cardholders a quieter but more dependable path to tickets - many times to touring performances of Broadway classics and new performances including Wicked

Our app can hide Amex and Citi presales if you don't have those cards, making it much simpler to focus on the presales you could actually use.

Who gets an Artist presale code and how does one qualify?

There are two answers to the question of how Artist Presale codes are sent out: First there is what Ticketmaster says and secondly there is what we've really observed during many years - keep reading, we can help you.

For "Artist Presales" managed by Ticketmaster-there are a lot of them but there are also some that will NOT work using this method.

Secondly, this only works if you learn about the tour announcement AND get signed up for the Artist on Ticketster before the cut-off the day before or a few days before the presale begins.

Sign into your Ticketmaster Account and go to the artist's sign-up page to select your preferred presales.

For these presales, any fan that signs up has the opportunity to join the sale. If the presale you signed up for is ticketed by another company other than Ticketmaster, there may be a code required to access the presale.

If this is the case, you'll receive an email reminder with your password and the link to the presale the evening before the presale begins.

During nearly 2 decades of experience we have found that in many cases access is given to those who have made a more direct connection with the artist - this includes subscribers to the official email newsletter for a performer or group, members of the official fan club (sometimes paid fanclub members), or followers on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram and Facebook (Meta).

The goal is to reward fans who are actively part of the artist's online community.

Why do Musicians and Bands use Artist Presales to sell their tickets?

It's the most direct way for an artist to reward their core fanbase and build a loyal following. PLus it helps that sending an email is almost free these days, or it was a few years ago.

By controlling the initial ticket release, they ensure their most dedicated supporters get the first chance to buy tickets, often at face value. It also encourages fans to sign up for mailing lists and follow social accounts, which are valuable marketing channels for album releases, merchandise, tours, promotions and more. Also, see Facebook Presales

When are Artist presale codes sent out?

The timing can vary greatly. Sometimes codes are sent a day or two in advance, while other times they are posted on social media just minutes before the presale goes live. For high-demand tours in North America, this can create a frantic rush, so it pays to be vigilant on the day of the sale.

What kind of tickets are available?

Similar to other presales, the artist is given a specific block of tickets from the promoter to sell to their fans. This inventory is spread across different sections and price points or it could all be concentrated at one level. While it can include fantastic seats, it's not a guarantee of a front-row spot, but it's always a chance to buy before the general public.

How common are Artist Presales in North America?

They are extremely common, from the smallest club tours to the largest stadium shows. It's become a standard part of the tour announcement cycle for North American artists. Many performers see it as the first and most important presale, as it directly engages the fans who are most likely to buy tickets and merchandise.

Are Artist presales linked to other presales?

Yes, frequently. An artist presale is often the first of many presales for a single event. It's typically followed by presales from partners like Live Nation, Ticketmaster, and local Venue Presales. The artist gets the first window to sell to their fans before the bigger promotional partners get their turn.

I signed up for the mailing list... Why didn't I get a code?

This can happen for a few reasons. Sometimes, email lists are segmented by geographic location, and you may have been outside the target area for a specific show. For huge tours, the demand can be so high that not every single subscriber receives a code.

Lastly, always check your spam or promotions folder, as presale emails can sometimes get filtered out by mistake.

If you missed your chance to sign up for an Artist Presale Code - you are in luck because Presale.Codes has a big list of them and once you find the one you need you're going to all set!

Artist presales are a fan's best friend for getting early access. Our service excels at tracking these, along with the many other types of presales, to make sure you never miss an opportunity to see your favorite performers live.

Why do venues offer these presales?

Venues offer presales as a powerful tool to build a direct relationship with their most loyal local customers. By maintaining their own email and SMS lists, they create a dedicated marketing channel that is far more cost-effective than broad public advertising. It allows them to reward patrons, build community loyalty, and ensure that people who frequent their establishment get the first opportunity to buy tickets. These presales also help the venue and promoters gauge ticket demand early on and can create initial sales momentum that helps sell out the show.

How far in advance do I need to sign up for the list?

This is the most critical rule of venue presales: you must be on the list before the presale is announced. When a show is confirmed, the venue's marketing team will collect their current list of subscribers to send the presale information to. If you sign up after that cutoff, you will be on the list for future shows, but you will almost certainly miss the presale for the event you're interested in.

If this has happened to you and you need a presale password today find the event in our database of todays presales WITH codes or use the search box to find what you're looking for and get going!

The best strategy is to proactively visit the websites of your favourite local venues and sign up for their newsletters and SMS alerts today so you are prepared for next time - or just use our service instead.

Do I need to register for each presale individually?

No, and that's the key convenience of this method. Unlike some artist-specific "Verified Fan" sales that require you to register your interest for each tour, a venue presale is based on your general subscription. Once you have joined a venue's email newsletter or SMS list, you don't need to do anything else. You are automatically eligible for all relevant presales they offer, and the codes and links will be sent to you without any further action required on your part.

I signed up but didn't get the email. What happened?

This is an extremely common issue, and the culprit is usually your spam or promotions folder. Because venues often use third-party services like Ticketmaster to distribute their marketing emails, your email provider (like Gmail or Outlook) can get confused. It might see an email sent from a Ticketmaster address about a show at a local venue and flag it as promotional or even junk. Always make sure to check your spam and promotions tabs thoroughly on the morning a presale code is due. A pro tip is to add the venue's contact email and a generic address like guestservices@ticketmaster.com to your email contacts to increase the chances of it landing in your main inbox.

How do you get on a venue's presale list?

The easiest way is to go directly to the venue's official website. Look for links that say "Join Our Newsletter," "Sign Up for E-Updates," or "Concert Club." This is where you can enter your email address. Increasingly, venues are also offering SMS (text message) lists, which are excellent for getting instant alerts that bypass email filters. You may also be presented with an option to join the list when you are in the process of buying tickets for another show at that same venue.

Who gets access to venue presales?

Access is granted exclusively to fans who have proactively subscribed to the venue's marketing list, either through email or SMS. It is not tied to your purchase history or how "big" of a fan you are. This makes it one of the most fair and accessible presale types, as anyone who takes the initiative to sign up ahead of time has an equal opportunity to participate. It directly rewards fans who are engaged with their local music and entertainment scene.

How are venue presale codes distributed?

The two primary methods are email and SMS. Most commonly, a venue will send an email to its entire subscriber list, either the day before or the morning of the presale. This email will contain the presale password (often a simple word like "VENUE," "LOCAL," or "MUSIC"), the start time, and a direct link to the ticketing page. As SMS lists become more popular, venues will also send a text message with the same information, which has the benefit of instant delivery and avoids the spam folder problem.

Venue Presales: By The Numbers

As one of the industry's longest-standing promotional tools, venue presales are incredibly common. They consistently rank as the 3rd or 4th most frequently used presale type, following major players like credit card companies (Amex, Citi) and large promoters (Live Nation). This means that for a vast majority of tours coming to your town—from arena concerts to theatre shows and comedy acts—the local venue will almost certainly have its own presale, making it a reliable strategy for securing tickets.

What kind of tickets are available?

Typically, the promoter provides the venue with a dedicated block of tickets to sell during their presale. This inventory is not just leftover seats; it's a representative cross-section of tickets from various price levels and locations throughout the venue. While they may not include the absolute front-row seats often reserved for VIP packages, they provide a fantastic opportunity to get great seats with significantly less competition than you'd face during the frantic general public on-sale.

How do Venue Presales compare to American Express Presales?

Venue and American Express presales serve different purposes and audiences. Venue presales reward local loyalty; anyone can sign up for a venue's mailing list for free to get access, making it a very democratic process. In contrast, American Express presales are a premium perk designed to reward financial loyalty; access is restricted to individuals who hold an Amex card, with better access often reserved for premium cardholders. Essentially, venue presales are about being a fan of your local scene, while Amex presales are about being a customer of a specific brand.
